It is a mere preconception that everyday hanbok cannot be trendy. Hanbok can make a person stand out and still be a practical, highbrow fashion. The studio of Hwang Iseul, a young artist who began the trend of hanbok as an everyday wear, intrigues visitors with threads and fabrics of beautiful colors and everyday hanbok in a variety of design. Hwang Iseul learned the charm of hanbok coincidentally at the age of 20 when she wore hanbok for a costume play. She kept the essential characters of hanbok but adopted the Western patterns in the cut and the composition, generating a slim design. She also revived the details in the sleeves and mixed an unfamiliar material such as a lace to hanbok, which led to an entirely new type of fashion with its own personality. Her coats take a motif from other types of Korean hanbok, or a traditional Korean overcoat. Elements of hanbok are efficiently planted in her coat, which match well not just with hanbok but also with other ready-made suits. One would wish that this new hanbok would become our everyday wear soon.
