Overview

Clay plates with different colors lay on top of one another. Cutting through the layers of plates reveals a larger pattern of colorful lines. The pattern differs depending on the color of the clay plates and the sculpting method. The artist Cho Shin-hyun relies upon a unique technique for his works, resembling a cross section of an old and accumulated sediment. His works transcend the law of nature through a simple repetition of colors and shapes. Among his works, the “Flow of Line-Nature” series, consisting of various food appliances, is notable for its practical demonstration of Cho’s artistic principles. By partially applying adornments beneath dishes and their supporting legs, Cho takes care not to impede the usage of the dishes or restrict the range of their usage. As a result, he succeeds in capturing both design and function through a single unified form.
