Overview

The studio of Artist Park In-soo in Cheonan is filled with mild coffee aroma, bright sunlight and objects of dreamy colors and shape. “Mountain and Cloud Vase” draws inspiration from one relic from an ancient kingdom of Buyeo. The artist redesigned an ancient brick with mountain and cloud patterns for the modern taste. It can be a small vase for flowers or can be a diffuser. They are displayed on shelves. Other objects include a tiny cute sculpture with animal motifs. Tiny characters such as the fox from or a penguin wearing a scarf lead viewers to a new universe. There is always a narrative that triggers one’s childlike innocence in Artist Park In Soo’s works. The works are small in scale but the details are alive. Many of the motifs are from a classical subject but the colors and the lines are quite modern. Park has conducted many experiments in an attempt to find a soft line. Maybe that is why. Rather than a ceramic mold casting studio, the space reminds of a lab, or another world in a fairy tale, such as ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.’
