Once the door to the studio is open, an entirely new world from the outside unfolds. In the dark and wide space, master craftsmen are taking their seats near a wall. Their workshop areas are lined up like a street food carts, each taking up less than 4 square meter space individually. The sun travels down through the ventilator illuminating the studio with a mysterious light. This is a space where brassware, is made. Master craftsmen meticulously harden a cast made of fine soil from the sea or the river and then pour molten metal into the cast. Brassware born from the soft soil should go through a process called tempering in order to acquire the solidity. Only after this tempering process, the brassware can create a clean sound that echoes into the room when gently tapped. When the work is complete, a true brassware dish is born, shining with delicate golden color. Geochang Yugi plates for shaved ice desserts and porridges were designed while keeping in mind the harmony of the colors of the Korean dessert and the brassware. Brassware was often thought to be reserved for traditional ceremonies for ancestors or as a relic from the old days. But with new design and style, they are revisiting our tables.
