Siktam Pottery, which makes and researches fun objects and practical tableware, is a ceramic brand by Artist Jeon Sang-geun. As if testifying that human hands can make more sophisticated and consistent pottery than machines, Artist Jeon Sang-geun’s plates emanate an elegant and pristine beauty. A soft blue color wraps the white liquor bottle and glass where patterns of small dots are engraved. Light is projected between the thin dots that are thinner than white slim slip. In another shelf, red and white plates after first firing are waiting to be glazed and for another turn of firing. For one ceramic ware to be completed, stories must be accumulated over a long period time. Close attention to details and devotion are called for in every process from the work on a potter’s wheels, refining, a first firing, glazing, a second firing and burning. The fate of the pottery products placed inside the kilns is determined by the flames over 1,200 Celsius degrees. The hands of the artist shaping soft clay into a ceramic ware on the wheels is careful and yet precise as if taking care of a baby. That’s how the simple and clear products of Siktam Pottery are born.
