Overview

The historical document of Hunminjeongeum and flower lattice gates, which both capture the essence of Korean culture and spirit spanning more than centuries, now assume a new form in handkerchiefs. In 2008, the digitally restored Hunminjeongeum in its written Korean rendition and the flower lattice pattern of major Buddhist temples in Korea became the visual model for CSPLAB Inc.’s handkerchief. After copying the Hunminjeongeum and the flower lattice pattern manually, they were digitally printed for the design of the handkerchief. Lee Yong-ro, the CEO of CSPLAB Inc., often travelled overseas and felt a sense of regret that no cultural products existed in the market. As he mulled over this problem, Lee began visiting cultural heritage sites in Korea for research and commenced designing his new product. Lee’s handkerchief series boasts both practicality and affordability. Capturing the traditional aesthetic of Korea, it takes inspiration from Hunminjeongeum and also the flower lattice gates of Bulguksa, the chrysanthemum gate of Yongmunsa, the peony gate of Shinheungsa, and many Buddhist temples. The unique designs of these gates have been meticulously imprinted onto Lee’s handkerchiefs. Capturing both the greatness and beauty of Korean cultural heritage, the handkerchiefs, winner of awards at the Tourist Souvenir Competition hosted by Korea Trade Organization, serve as great presents for tourists who will cherish them as symbols of Korean culture.
