Overview

For an artist, childhood memories always carry a big meaning. The raw emotion during the childhood and the landscapes witnessed as a child can trigger a nostalgic feeling at a certain moment, leading to creation of a unique product. It was same for Artist Lee Yong-kee of Lee Yongkee Wood Working Studio who worked with trees for all his life. Memories of catching fishes in the brook during the childhood and the distinct air of the city of Busan famous for Jagalchi fish market have met the taste of the artist who likes natural shapes and look with no pretense. The result is a refined, comfortable showroom and studio. Not only woodworks but also collaboration of various materials such as metals, ceramics and stones draw attention. Perhaps because they take the lines and the shapes from natural things, those objects are familiar yet beautiful. A wine opener in the shape of fish, selected as an Excellent Cultural Product, is made of a mixture of trees including maple tree. One would look forward to what kind of creative products can be made in this studio that stimulate boundless imagination.
